Proper disposal of lights and bulbs

Disposal and Return Notice

Electrical and electronic devices contain pollutants that could endanger health and our environment, as well as valuable resources that can be recycled with your help. For this reason, at the end of their service life, old electronic devices must be collected separately from unsorted municipal waste and must not be disposed of with normal household waste. This is indicated by the symbol of a crossed-out garbage can shown below, which is used to identify electronic devices.

Your obligation to return old electronic devices

According to the Electrical and Electronic Equipment Act (ElektroG), every consumer is legally obliged to dispose of old electrical equipment, including lights, lamps and fans (with the exception of light bulbs) in a professional and environmentally friendly manner and to hand them in at an approved collection or return point. Old electronic devices are accepted there free of charge and recycled in an environmentally friendly and resource-saving manner. The collection and return points give the old devices to certified disposal companies, which first check whether the devices can be refurbished and reused. If reuse is not possible, the pollutants are removed from the devices and valuable resources are recycled.

In particular, the following must not be disposed of with household waste:

  • lamps and lights
  • Compact fluorescent lamps with or without ballast (energy-saving lamps)
  • Fluorescent lamps (fluorescent tubes)
  • Discharge lamps (including metal vapor lamps)
  • Led Lamps
  • batteries and accumulators

Light bulbs that are easy to remove must be removed before the old device is handed in and disposed of separately. The same applies to easily removable old batteries and accumulators as well as those that are not enclosed by the old electrical device. For more information on battery disposal, see https://www.lampewelt.de/batteriegesetz.html .
